An F1 Savannah has an African Serval as one parent, typically the father, while the mother is a domestic cat. F2 Savannah cats have an African Serval as its grandfather, it is produced by breeding with an F1 and an F5 cat. F2 Savannah cats are highly desirable because many retain the striking exotic appearance of the African Serval while often being slightly more manageable than F1s. F3 Savannah cats are produced with an F2 and F5 cat, the great-grandfather is an African Serval. F4 and above have less African Serval and more domestic cat characteristics, which is the reason for the more affordable price.

How Big Will My Savannah Get?

Savannah cats mature slowly compared to many domestic cats and may continue growing until around 3 years of age.

F1 Savannah Personalities
F1 Savannah cats require a great deal of time, attention, and dedication. They are the closest generation to the Serval, they tend to inherit many wild and energetic traits. These cats are extremely affectionate and often show love through purring, and constantly staying near their owners.
They are incredibly curious, athletic, and intelligent. No shelf or cabinet is truly out of reach for an F1 Savannah, and many owners quickly learn the importance of child-locking cabinets and securing valuables. They can jump impressively high, balance with ease, and thrive on interaction and stimulation.
F1s form very close bonds with their families and often behave more like dogs than cats. Many can be leash trained and enjoy following their owners throughout the house. Because of their social and demanding personalities, they are best suited for homes where someone can dedicate significant time and interaction to them.
F2 Savannah Personalities
F2 Savannah cats still require attention and interaction but are generally a bit more relaxed than F1s. They maintain the exotic appearance and playful nature of the breed while often being slightly more independent.
These cats are affectionate, intelligent, and social, enjoying playtime, cuddles, and attention from their families. F2s are a great option for those wanting the striking Savannah look with a little more flexibility and less intensity than an F1. They are also highly trainable and can learn to walk comfortably on a harness and leash.
F3 Savannah Personalities
F3 Savannah cats are often considered an excellent starting point for families new to the breed. They offer a wonderful balance between exotic beauty and a more traditional domestic cat temperament.
While still playful and occasionally mischievous, F3s are usually calmer and more adaptable than earlier generations. They do well in family environments and are often especially good with children.
